Now that’s more like it!
Well after experiencing a season high 6-gaming losing streak
last week, the Blue Jays have now bounced back with a 5-game
winning streak. Most notably, they swept a 4-game series
against the Chicago White Sox. Fortunately, these are not
the World Series winning White Sox we recall from 2005,
but they are fans of the long ball nonetheless.
Starting pitching has continued to be solid for the Jays.
Pitchers have put up 9 straight quality starts, and the
bullpen has been dependable as well. It was also nice to
finally see the bats come around this past weekend. In this
5 game streak, the Blue Jays have outscored opponents 15-5.
I realize that’s not quite a large margin, but since
it’s the Jays pitching staff you have to give them
a little bit of extra credit.
This week is time for a little redemption, as the Jays
face the Rays. In their last series, the Jays were swept
by the Rays. This is a big test for the Blue Jays this week
- the Rays are a very hot hitting team, and their bullpen
has been absolutely solid to date. I think this series will
come down to who can swing the better bat, and who can play
better small-ball.
Rumours of John Gibbons firing have subsided for now, as
the win streak is now taking over the headlines. But I’m
afraid that if they go into another losing slump, Gibby’s
job might be in jeopardy. But so long as the Blue Jays continue
to win, we won’t have to hear about that for a while.
